How do people easily communicate?

It happens all the time. People get together with so much pint up excitement to converse and they excel willingly in conversing. There is information out there to spark the converse without making things awkward and complicated... I simply following the first few steps sometimes doesn't work. I wish I could communicate more freely without those obnoxious feeling of panic. I can sit in a group but sometimes won't give a word. Oh! The "just do it" vibe? Shuts me down after my voice didn't feel register to the person/people I talk with.
Scary when offered words are shut down.
